Blue Hoots Pre School is nestled in a small parish between Kidderminster and Hagley, our intent is to provide a nurturing home from home environment where children feel completely safe, loved and valued. We believe a child that feels securely attached and at ease will naturally thrive.

Our curriculum blends the warmth of Hygge pedagogy with the child centric, collaborative spirit of the Reggio Emilia Approach. We intend to foster curious, independent and resilient learners who are connected to their natural surroundings and community.

At Blue Hoots Pre School, our curriculum is designed to give every child the best possible start in life and for this to support them in later years even as adults. We intentionally use soft lighting, natural wooden furnishings, and cosy spaces to mimic a calm home environment, reducing cognitive overload and promoting emotional well-being.

Using the environment as the third teacher as inspired by Reggio Emilia, our spaces are intentionally curated with authentic open-ended resources and real-life objects to spark curiosity, critical thinking and a sense of belonging.

We recognise that the early years provide a critical window for development, therefore our intent is to create a secure, language rich environment where children develop the confidence, curiosity and independence needed to become lifelong learners. We view children as strong capable individuals rich with potential.

Our curriculum follows their interests, allowing them to lead through their own learning journeys through exploration and investigation and building on their natural curiosity.

We aim to build a strong foundation that prepares children not just for school, but for the wider world.

Communication and language is at the core of our curriculum for all age groups. We intentionally immerse children in a vocabulary rich environment through high-quality interactions, storytelling, songs and rhymes. We aim for every child to leave our nursery, feeling confident to express their wants and needs, thoughts, and feelings confidently.

We prioritise secure attachments as part of our PSED development, using key people to support children with feeling safe and secure in their environment, feeling safe to take risks, make mistakes and build resilience by not being afraid to have another go. We aim for children to become independent in their self-care, decision making and problem solving skills by offering a high range of activities for them to explore and enhance with their own thoughts and ideas and provide high-quality teaching to extend their learning skills and embed their learning to be used in future experiences.

We support children in understanding their own emotions, learning how to self-regulate in a way that works for them, and to develop respect and empathy for others and within the wider world.

For our youngest children our curriculum heavily prioritises physical development, communication and emotional security, as children grow, we build on these skills and begin to introduce more specific areas of learning such as early literacy, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world and expressive arts in a playful age-appropriate way.

We choose activities that foster the characteristics of effective learning – ensuring children are playing and exploring, actively learning and thinking critically.

 

Our curriculum is flexible and adaptive. We meet children where they are, ensuring those with SEND receive targeted ambitious support. We aim to enrich every child’s life experience by celebrating diversity, exploring nature, and introducing them to the wider world around them.
